What's up with us?Hi, everyone! My name is Michelle Lori, the Founder of TH&TH Foundation. I wanted to write this article to introduce you to myself, my non-profit, and my mission. "For a mission as significant as this one, action is critical, and it must happen now." I launched TH&TH Foundation back in April, after months of letting the idea incubate. Admittedly, I am a 22 year-old college student, a few months shy of obtaining a bachelor's degree, without the first clue in the world about how to run a non-profit organization.
Many times, I've had people throw that very thing back in my face: "How do you plan to make this work?" "What do you know about running a non-profit?" "Where do you plan to take this?" "How are you gonna do this?" Certainly, the latter questions are all very valid, and even more certainly, I can't give concrete answers to any of these questions. The only answer I do have is this: However it will work, I will make it work. The fact of the matter is if I am to effect the kind of change I hope to, the details will have to be worked out along the way, as they are in most life scenarios. It does us no good to plan and plan and plan, if we never act on anything we've planned. For a mission as significant as this one, action is critical, and it must happen now. For the past 5 years or so, I have been avidly working on my novel "The Head and The Heart" (which publishes this week!). The novel centers around the conflict of relationship abuse and dating violence in the young LGBT community, and the impact of such trauma on the individual who has experienced it. In high school, I was involved in an abusive, toxic relationship that tore apart my mentality, my well-being, and my outlook on the world. Since then, I have experienced and witnessed even more abuse that disguised itself as love. This problem is all too common among anyone and everyone. My life itself is what catapulted me to take on a mission that is challenging, but albeit necessary for our world to face: ending dating violence. That is the mission of TH&TH Foundation, and my hope is that my novel is only the catalyst for this change. I have ideas for TH&TH Foundation that I have scratched the surface of--ideas that I will work long and hard to carry out. Later this week, I will delve into some of those ideas in another blog post. For now, I wanted everyone to know that this isn't just some one-off idea or errant, fleeting goal I will start but never finish. This is important to me--more important than almost any other endeavor I have begun. The health and well-being of myself and those around me is something I hold very close to my heart, and if it's the last thing I do, I plan to make the world a better and safer place for people like me and you to love. Stay tuned for more information regarding our agenda, our mission, and our plan. To join our team, feel free to subscribe to our newsletter on the home page. Thank you for reading, and best wishes. Sincerely, Michelle Lori Founder of The Head and The Heart Foundation
